Managing the unique dental needs of your child
Every child is different and every dental treatment we provide will be tailored specifically to your child’s teeth and needs. There are some dental and oral complications that are more prevalent in certain groups of children. These include
Development, shape and size of teeth and bones
Quality and quantity of enamel on their teeth
Erosion and attrition of teeth
Oral sensitivity/aversions to brushing and flossing
Gingivitis and ulcers
Responses of saliva and gums to medications
Managing the dental care of a child with special needs requires careful consideration. Associated conditions, risk factors and any medications taken may affect the type of treatment we recommend. We also consider the challenges at home regarding oral health habits. Over the years, we’ve developed lots of techniques and ideas to make dental care easier and will work with you to find one that best suits your child’s unique needs.
Regardless of the dental service your child requires, we’re here to provide a friendly, safe and comfortable environment for them and alleviate any anxiety you may feel when visiting the dentist. Please feel free to provide us with any additional information that may help us prepare for a successful dental appointment with your child.
Making your child comfortable is our priority
Our purpose-built dental office is wheelchair accessible, and we create opportunities for pre-appointment discussions with parents so they can meet the dentist and view the rooms. We also have "quiet" appointments and create desensitisation opportunities if your child feels more comfortable with fewer stimuli.
We welcome you to be our partner in the best care of your child. Tell us their favourite colour, TV show or character or bring a comfort object or friend. We welcome any initiative to make the experience the best it can be for you and your child, especially on their first trip to the dentist.
